I know that it is summer time and things are supposed to be brighter and more relaxing, but yet I can’t say no to a melancholic autumn chill, especially when it is well performed and presented to the listener.
LUDI OSENI, the name of the band – which is actually a project – means in the Russian language “autumn people”. I think that the band chose a perfect name in order to present their music. The atmosphere that rules the whole album is melancholy and I think that LUDI OSENI manage to interpret the autumn atmosphere into music very well. I think that their style can be described as atmospheric doom/death metal with some gothic touches. In order to give you a hint of how they sound, I believe that a comparison with bands like MY DYING BRIDE and ANATHEMA of the “Alternative 4” era is quite accurate. An element that I liked a lot is the use of the viola, which underlines very strongly the melancholic atmosphere of the album. The only thing that this album lacks is variety, but generally speaking it is an album that doesn’t tire you and the fans of the genre will appreciate it. Also the band pays attention to the lyrics, but the bad thing is that it is in Russian and I can’t read or understand them. To sum up my review I have to say that “Arising” might not bring something new to the genre, but it is a well built album that the fans of this sound will find things to like here.
